A Concrete Flatwork Associate is a person who has demonstrated knowledge (via a written examination) on proper procedures to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. A Concrete Flatwork Finisher is a craftsman who has demonstrated the skills (via a hands-on performance exam) necessary to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. An Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher is a craftsman who has demonstrated the knowledge and skills and/or experience necessary to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. Important!No refund will be granted within one week of the exam date and no request to move to another exam date will be accepted.

Classes not meeting the minimum number of registrants will be cancelled and rescheduled to the next available class.

What To Expect

There is no performance exam for these certifications.

The written exam is closed book and 2 hours in length. ACI will grant certification of “Concrete Flatwork Associate” to candidates who obtain a passing grade on the written examination.

For those with experience, ACI will grant certification of “Concrete Flatwork Finisher or Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher” to those candidates who:

  • Possess 1,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing experience (approximately one year of regular full-time work) AND successfully complete the performance examination (not offered in Alaska), OR
  • Possess 4,500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing experience (approximately three years of regular full-time work)

Experience must be shown and submitted via a Work Experience Form (available on the ACI National website or upon request to [email protected].

What to Bring

Bring a photograph ID, calculator, and No. 2 pencils to the exam.

A workbook is included with a full exam ticket purchase. If you need the workbook mailed, please contact us with the mailing instructions. Do not rely on the registration to notify us.
